  8.        2.  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  10.        This chapter lists supplemental information to the _I_R_I_S
  11.        _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e.  The information listed here is
  12.        product- and release-specific; use it with the Installation
  13.        Guide to install this product.

  15.        2.1  _A_r_r_a_y__S_e_r_v_i_c_e_s__S_u_b_s_y_s_t_e_m_s

  17.        Array Services 2.1 is installed as "arraysvcs", and contains
  18.        the following subsystems:
  19.  
  20.        _a_r_r_a_y_s_v_c_s._s_w._a_v_i_e_w            ArrayView, the graphical array
  21.                                      monitor.  This is an X-based
  22.                                      tool for monitoring the status
  23.                                      of the various machines in an
  24.                                      array and for performing basic
  25.                                      job control functions on array
  26.                                      sessions.
  27.  
  28.        _a_r_r_a_y_s_v_c_s._s_w._b_a_s_e             The basic array services
  29.                                      software.  This includes the
  30.                                      array services daemon and
  31.                                      several client programs.  This
  32.                                      subsystem is required for any
  33.                                      system that wishes to take
  34.                                      advantage of the array
  35.                                      services.
  36.  
  37.        _a_r_r_a_y_s_v_c_s._s_w._d_e_v              Header files for developers
  38.                                      who wish to take advantage of
  39.                                      the array services via the
  40.                                      array services library,
  41.                                      libarray.  This subsystem is
  42.                                      _n_o_t required for normal
  43.                                      operation of the array
  44.                                      services.
  45.  
  46.        _a_r_r_a_y_s_v_c_s._s_w._d_s_o              Dynamic Shared Object
  47.                                      libraries for array services.
  48.                                      This subsystem is also
  49.                                      required for any system that
  50.                                      wishes to take advantage of
  51.                                      the array services.  Both O32
  52.                                      and N32 libraries are
  53.                                      included.

  89.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of
  90.        arraysvcs.

  92.        If you are installing this product for the first time, the
  93.        subsystems marked ``default'' are the ones that are
  94.        installed if you use the ``go'' menu item.  To install a
  95.        different set of subsystems, use the ``install,''
  96.        ``remove,'' ``keep,'' and ``step'' commands in _i_n_s_t to
  97.        customize the list of subsystems to be installed, then
  98.        select the ``go'' menu item.

  100.        Note:  The listed subsystem sizes are approximate. Refer to
  101.               the _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for information

  136.        2.3  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d

  138.        All of the subsystems for arraysvcs can be installed using
  139.        IRIX.  You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to the
  140.        _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
  141.        instructions.

  143.        2.4  _P_r_e_r_e_q_u_i_s_i_t_e_s
  144.  
  145.        Your system must be running at least IRIX 6.4 in order to
  146.        use Array Services 2.1.
  147.  
  148.        If you want to install ArrayView, you must also have the
  149.        ViewKit_eoe.sw.base, desktop_eoe.sw.envm and c++_eoe.sw.lib
  150.        subsystems installed.  These are available as part of the
  151.        IRIX 6.4 distribution.

  153.        2.5  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  154.  
  155.        The arraysvcs product is not compatible with the
  156.        arraysvcs_53 product from earlier releases of Array
  157.        Services, and should not be installed on on the same system
  158.        at the same time.

  160.        2.6  _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s
  161.  
  162.        Many of the array services rely on configuration information
  163.        contained in the file ////uuuussssrrrr////lllliiiibbbb////aaaarrrrrrrraaaayyyydddd....ccccoooonnnnffff.  This file
  164.        contains information about which arrays are present, the
  165.        machines in each of those arrays, and what commands can be
  166.        executed across an array.  Please see the _a_r_r_a_y_d._c_o_n_f(4) man
  167.        pages for detail on setting up this file.

  169.        2.7  _O_t_h_e_r__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  171.        The array services will not become active until they are
  172.        enabled with the _c_h_k_c_o_n_f_i_g(1) command:

  176.        It is not necessary to reboot the system after installing
  177.        the array services, to make them active, but if you do not
  178.        reboot, it will be necessary to restart them manually.  To
